It’s hard to believe how quickly my engagement is flying by, but the countdown is officially on: I’m getting married in October, in just a little over four months! As you might imagine, I have a few beauty goals I’d like to meet between now and then. This post is dedicated to just one of [...]

Name: Elizabeth Franz
Occupation: DermStore Content Manager
Age: The brink of maturity
About me: My fascination with beauty and skin care began during my formative years, when I would read everything I could get my hands on—from the utterly age-inappropriate (I climbed up to the top of my parents’ bookshelf and read “Helter Skelter” when I was 9, I think) to the mundane (the local weekly newspaper) to the stuff that really resonated (when the latest issue of Glamour or Allure was due to come in the mail … let’s just say the mail delivery people knew me by name). Today, I still like to read. So much that I earned a degree in English Literature. And while a weekend curled up with a challenging novel always sounds lovely to me, nothing makes me happier than a quiet Saturday with a stack of beauty and fashion mags. What I’m trying to say is that I’m a nerd, but a really girly one.
It should also be noted that I make drastic changes to my hair color whenever the mood strikes. I’ve been to blonde and back (and everywhere in between) more times than I can count.
What’s in your makeup bag? Sunscreen (a must for everyone), day and night moisturizers (admittedly, I have commitment issues when it comes to brands, but right now I really like April Rain) RAW Natural Minerals Foundation, Chanel La Ligne de Chanel Professional Eyeliner Duo (I’ve been obsessed for years), a couple of pinkish blushes and approximately 80 shades of eye shadow.
Your #1 must-have product: Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner. It’s just awesome. When I don’t use it, I notice a difference in my skin.
Favorite Brand(s): Dermalogica, Exuviance, Jane Iredale, PCA Skin
Your best beauty tip: It’s not just what you do to your skin on the outside. You need to take care of it from within. That means avoiding processed foods, taking in plenty of nutrients AND drinking lots of water! Also, ever notice how the happy-go-lucky types always look so radiant? Well, they do. Don’t make me resort to cheesy colloquialisms here … just be happy and don’t be so obsessed with acting your age all the time.
Your biggest beauty concern: Keeping my sensitive skin hydrated and protected, and keeping wrinkles around my eyes at bay.
Here’s another ingredient you’ve definitely heard of, but maybe didn’t know would be of serious benefit for your skin: jade! Among the tasks jade is purported to pull off, if you ask an expert in East Asian medicine? Healing stressed organs (like your skin) and purging toxins. It’s also a natural transmitter of far infrared [...]
As you all probably know by now, I live and work here in LA, where “winter” doesn’t exactly exist (certainly not this year, anyway). I mean, this past weekend in Palm Springs, I was able to lay out by the pool. My fiancé and I have been sleeping with our windows open upstairs and/or running [...]
Ahhhh … the holiday season is upon us once again! If you’re like most, you’ll be doing your fair share of traveling over the next couple of months. (If you’re like me, you find yourself at the airport on a monthly basis.) Whatever the frequency of your air travel, if you’re flying ANYWHERE during these [...]
I have a beauty blunder to confess: I once had green eyebrows. Not really green like a Pellegrino bottle or a Christmas tree, but green in relation to my overall coloring. How did I get myself into this quandary? With a little help from an ash-brown drugstore brow pencil, that’s how. Hey, I was in [...]
That’s me in the dentist’s chair, in the selfie above. (Sans makeup, because who wears makeup to the dentist?) I could have called this “The Visit To The Dentist That Was Actually Fun” or something to that effect. I also could have called it something like “The Time I Left The Dentist So Happy I [...]
If there’s one thing I’m horrible at, it’s reading directions. Maybe it’s that I’ve grown disenchanted by instances in which I HAVE actually made an effort to do so …only to fail epically at the task at hand. (IKEA furniture comes to mind, but honestly, should we even call those things directions?) Maybe I’m making [...]
All you fashion buffs and accessories mavens out there already know: Tarina Tarantino makes some of the funnest, edgiest jewelry out there. Her designs have always been a favorite of mine—you know, I STILL lament the fact that I lost my beloved (and charming!) “I Hate You” ring in 2006. (Incidentally, the same year I [...]
Today, everyone’s buzzing about all the amazing couture that strutted the red carpet at last night’s Met Gala. And I agree, there were a lot of great looks (my fave: Anja Rubik in Anthony Vaccarello) … but let’s talk about the nails! Deborah Lippmann (yes, that Deborah Lippmann) created a handful of chic manicures for [...]
Need a haircut? Head over to a salon participating in Aveda’s global cut-a-thon and make it count! Stylists all over the globe are volunteering their time today, giving haircuts in exchange for donations to Aveda’s annual Earth Month campaign for clean water. Aveda is hoping to set the Guinness World Record® for most money raised [...]
