Do You Dare? Laser Hair Removal: Thoughts, Hesitations, Solutions and FREE GIFTS!

The newest trend in our office may seem somewhat personal, but has become quite a necessity in our beauty regimens, hence the perfect reason to write this blog! Laser hair removal is an FDA- approved process of permanently reducing or eliminating unwanted hair on almost any part of the body. This procedure has worked its way into my life and the lives of quite a few of my colleagues, family and friends. I was first introduced to this noninvasive technique by word of mouth from a coworker. After hearing that the outcome is “FANTASTIC” I was enticed enough to secure 6 treatments for myself (clearly it didn’t take a lot to convince me). So far I absolutely love the results and definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to rid themselves of unwanted hair.

Now that I am a fan I thought I would do some research to support my recommendations .To my surprise I discovered that Laser Hair Removal has been around since the 60s! Thankfully, the lasers used by professionals today have come a long way and have saturated medical offices and day spas alike making the treatments very accessible. Generally it is recommended that you complete a minimum of six sessions for full results. With 6-8 weeks between each treatment this beauty process is a longer one, but worth it.

The way a laser works is by aiming a beam of light at the hair follicle. The light is absorbed by the pigment, which damages the follicle enough to stunt future growth. Results can last anywhere from several months to years. Keep in mind this is not a permanent technique because of the hair’s natural growth cycle. Many professionals recommend coming back for touch up treatments at least once a year after your 6 sessions are over. Like most cosmetic procedures results vary from person to person. Be sure to follow ALL instructions. The most important is to keep the treated area out of the sun for the duration of all your treatments. This is crucial to ensure the treated area does not become burned, and darker skin which absorbs the light before it can reach the follicle.

Two hesitations most people are concerned with are the pain it causes and the amount of money it costs. I was lucky enough to find a discount for the center I go to and encourage everyone to look for them as well. With as many discount programs and social media sites that offer coupons this should not be hard. With my discount I received three sessions for a small area at a total of $79! Make sure to shop around before securing anything.  Secondly, many (and rightfully so) fear the amount of pain the lasers cause. Depending on one’s pain tolerance experiences can differ quite dramatically. Some people refer to it as tiny pinches. I found that the majority of patients and doctors describe it as hot rubber bands being pulled back and slapped onto your skin over and over. I however think it feels more like tiny hot needles going into your skin over and over. Personally, I do not think it is unbearable. The area in which you choose to have the procedure also plays a role in how painful it will be.

In order to avoid this irritability altogether invest in the correct prep steps. I highly recommend using a numbing cream 30 minutes before your appointment and perhaps even taking a pain reliever. Enter the brand BareEase; the perfect pre-procedure solution! These are panties that come with numbing treatment that you put on prior to your appointment and then discard once you are done. The product was created by Edna Ma M.D. Doctor Ma is an experienced anesthesiologist and physician and wanted to create a product that provided consumers with a painless solution to laser and waxing treatments. I have never gotten a laser for hair removal; however, i have indirectly experienced the moments. Almost nearly 90% of my girl-friend have done a laser hair removal on their arm pits and/or above their upper lips.
They told me the laser stings but it takes a few trips to dermatologist to have them removed completely, and is not guaranteed to have them all cleared out at the end. Manyy stopped the treatment after three or four times.

I have had found that it takes many more treatments than recommended and there are certain lasers that work for different skin/hair types. It can be very expensive but effective if you find a facility that has the right lasers for you. Make sure you do your research and ask lots of questions. Most of the time it is not painful, but was burned once quite badly and never went back to that so spa again. It didn’t deter me from going somewhere else and having great results. Not having to deal with razor burn and shaving everyday has been well worth it. I would defiantly say that it is worth it.
