Almost all the spray on sunscreens are these crazy chemicals that have been getting really bad reps lately so I want to stick to the tried and true basics! Zinc oxide. It has stood the test of time and is all natural. Those old surfers knew what worked to keep their nose from peeling and protected from the sun. Nice to know new formulations use this ingredient but have toned down that totally white look.

For this freckle-faced redhead… zinc as a physical blocker is the best at preventing both UVB and UVA damage. Plus Elta MD was recommended by my Texas dermatologist. Love it!

Mineral sunblock without nanoparticles is the safest choice
Non-micronized titanium dioxide or zinc oxide sunblock is the safest choice for protecting against UVA and UVB rays. Unfortunately, sunblock labels most often do not disclose whether the product contains nanoparticles.
Technically, it’s the shade. It blocks 100% of all UVA and UVB. But I know that is not the answer you seek. It is any suncreen/sunblock that contains zinc oxide.

I know that zinc oxide is the ingredient that makes sub block effective and that it is safe and pretty much allergy free, but I am so glad that Elta makes sun block that works, goes on smoothly and doesn’t look like a white mask.

Zinc Oxide for its broad spectrum UVA/UVB blocking properties. Titanium Dioxide is a close second. Both are considered non-comedogenic as their particles are too large to be absorbed into the skin and instead act as a barrier between skin and ultraviolet radiation.
