MANLY MONDAY: The Man Tan

When starting the Manly Monday segment, many of my co-workers were eager to send me stories or products they thought would be great for the blog. Well the following story got a wealth of action and I’m sure you will understand why. This is the man tan, but executed in horrendous fashion.

At the Arnold Classic Europe — a fitness expo/competition started by the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger held earlier this month — there was one man in particular who stood out in the line of ridiculously mesomorphic males.  The unidentified competitor — known simply as No. 49 — would have thought his pre-competition routine was like everyone else’s. It’s general practice to lather yourself with tanning product before a competition. It helps to accentuate those muscles that no one else in the world has, and supposedly prevents your complexion from getting washed out due to the type of lights used on stage. Unfortunately though, it looks like No. 49 may have been in a bit of a rush and forgot about his melon.

I don’t think this is what Arny had in mind when it came to the sport of bodybuilding, but I guess it makes sense. You’re not trying to show off the muscles — or lack thereof — in your head, so why would there be a need to tan the face? Well I think the answer is quite simple: you don’t want to look like this champion. He does look quite happy with himself though doesn’t he? Such a stoic looking man.

I’m not sure what product this bloke is using, but it’s clearly a couple of shades too dark. With the summer days slipping away, those scorching, sunny tanning days are few and far between. But for those of you out there who are still looking for a NATURAL sun-kissed look, Hey Dude Self Tanner SPF 15 is your answer. There’s nothing wrong with trying to keep a little color, but there’s absolutely no chance I’ll be recommending a sunbed or spray tan — say hello Mitt Romney — for blokes, that’s just not on. Hey Dude provides a simple, easy-to-use SPF 15 sunscreen lotion blocking harmful UVA and UVB rays, while providing a safe, sunless tan. No. 49, invest in Hey Dude ASAP.
