When people think about the “Arctic,” many envision ice and snow. However, the Arctic is actually home to some of nature’s most vibrant plants and berries that provide the body with countless benefits both internally and externally. I look at it as a vast treasure trove of ingredients to enhance our natural beauty. In fact, many don’t realize this, but Nordic countries (like my home… Finland) have been using some of their natural environmental elements for both healing and cosmetic purposes for many centuries. This knowledge has been collected through folk tradition and we are now able to use generations of learning’s in our product development at Lumene.
Many people are surprised to hear that Arctic ingredients are some of the most potent in the world – they are super-concentrated with powerful nutrients such as vitamins and antioxidants. They are not cultivated or protected by artificial methods, unlike many plants and fruits that are harvested by machines. Therefore, evolution has taught these Arctic plants to create their own defense mechanisms against environmental elements such as the weather, plant diseases, and hungry bugs! It is quite a unique phenomenon and one that we have discovered to be extremely beneficial in skincare. For someone like me in product innovation and development, it is a dream come true to work with such natural marvels.
At Lumene, we use only the freshest premium Arctic ingredients in our beauty enhancing skincare lines. We have formulated our products to include at least 80% natural ingredients. Arctic Cloudberries (featured in the Vitamin C+ Line) are one of our ”superstars” as far as ingredients go. They are exceptionally beneficial due to the extremely high content of Vitamin C they contain. The high Vitamin C content can be attributed to the geographical location where cloudberries grow. The berries flourish in their natural environment, the marshlands, and thrive when the overnight temperatures are substantially lower than the daytime. The line is ideal for women in their 20’s and 30’s, when you start seeing the first signs of aging.
When we cultivate our ingredients, a very precise and efficient harvesting process has to be implemented for the Cloudberries to be “fit” for use. The berries are handpicked at the end of the summer, when they are the ripest and incorporated into the product formulations. Once picked, a local producer uses the berries in things like juices and jams. Then, the seed oil and nectar from the seeds are extracted. This extract, which is a by-product of the food industry and thus a very sustainable product, is delivered to us at Lumene.
So, what makes the Cloudberry nectar and seed oil found in the Vitamin C+ Line so unique? The Cloudberry seed oil contains ample amounts of linoleic and alpha-linolenic acid (Omega6 and Omega3), Vitamin A, Vitamin E and plant sterols. They strengthen the skin, prevent aging and due to its antioxidant effects, also protect skin from external stressors. Cloudberry seed nectar contains detoxification properties to help make the skin look brighter and more radiant. In addition to cloudberry seed oil and nectar, certain products in the Vitamin C+ product line also contain lingonberry, like the Vitamin C Anti-Puffiness Eye Roll-On Serum, or cranberry seed oil, which is found in the Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail, to enhance the effect.
It’s very exciting to work at Lumene because of the resources and technologies we have created. In fact, the Vitamin C+ Line is just one of the many lines that feature the powerful and effective natural treasures found in the Arctic. My product innovation and development team and I thoroughly study the effectiveness of our natural Nordic ingredients and carefully select which ones would be most effective in our skincare products. That is part of what makes my job so fun!
Another one of our highly innovative product lines is Excellent Future. This powerful line utilizes modern Applexcell™ technology (a combination of modern apple stem cell extract and ancient Arctic white peat), to treat, prevent and delay damage caused by aging and environmental factors. It makes skin feel and look younger and more vital by protecting skin’s stem cells, which play a key role in preserving a youthful appearance.
