Putting it to the test: At Home Hair Removal

Unwanted hair is a topic that is frequented amongst many women today. There are many methods and types of hair removal out there proven to remove pesky hair. Waxing, epilating, threading, electrolysis, and laser are amongst the many methods to achieve hair-free results. One of the latest, FDA approved solutions to permanently remove unwanted hair is called the Silk’n SensEpil. This innovative at home hair removal uses intense light pulses to remove hair safely by using a low amount of energy all in the privacy of your own home. It can be used just about anywhere: legs, underarms, bikini area, and is even safe enough to use on your face!

I was fortunate enough to be able to test the Silk’n SensEpil and share my experience with other hair-conscious females.  The machine itself is very easy to use and came with an instructional DVD that was easy to follow. If you are like me, it is easier for me to understand a product better by watching a video rather than reading an instruction booklet. It couldn’t have been emphasized enough in the DVD and instructions that the machine should not be used on naturally dark or tanned skin because the light will not be able to recognize the hair. Luckily, Silk’n SensEpil has an intuitive skin color sensor that actually measures the complexion of your skin. If it is too dark, the sensor will not allow the light to pulse.

As I mentioned, this at home laser hair removal system was a piece of cake to use. I removed the machine from the box, plugged it in and waited only about three seconds for the ready indicator light to show. Using the DVD as reference, I followed step-by-step instructions. Moving from left to right, I placed the applicator that holds the disposable lamp cartridge on my cleanly shaven leg and pressed the button on the applicator that triggers the light pulse. It only takes about three seconds in between pulses to recharge and move onto the next area which is signaled by a beep. After completing two full legs and underarms, I felt relaxed and at ease that I never had to get into my car or change out of my pajamas to permanently remove my unwanted hair.

Thus far, I have noticed hair reduction in my underarms after only two sessions. Although results so quickly may not be common, I am excited to see the progress of the hair removal adventure. I will report back in six months to determine if 2012 will be a hairfree year!
