I have been inspired by many people in the cosmetic field, including brand-owners, make-up artists and estheticians, however nothing has touched my heart like the story of Talia Joy Castellano also known as TaliaJoy18 on Youtube. On her channel, she covers everything from how to clean your make-up brushes, to product reviews and make up tutorials. During the last two years of her life, Talia rose to fame as one of the youngest beauty gurus online. Her virtual success landed her a spot as a guest on the Ellen Degeneres show and the title of honorary Covergirl.
On July 16, 2013, Talia passed away at 11:22 a.m. after battling childhood cancers for over 6 years. She was first diagnosed with Neuroblastoma then later diagnosed with a second type of cancer MDS preleukemia. Even during the difficult times, Talia never lost her zest for life or her passion for makeup. Although I am deeply saddened by her passing, this post is to honor the beautiful legacy that she left behind.
I remember hearing about Talia’s YouTube channel and initially thought to myself, “What could a 12 year old teach me about make up?” I was wrong! What I learned from Talia went beyond amazing beauty tips.
Talia was a shining example of resiliency, beauty, bravery and confidence. Her story is one that I think all women can gain inspiration from. After losing her hair to chemo therapy, she decided that she would not wear wigs; instead she turned to make up. Talia adopted the saying “Make Up is my wig”. She showed us that no matter what imperfections we may have, we are still beautiful.
Talia was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. In addition to the mark she left on the beauty industry, she helped raised $125,00 for her favorite charity, BASE Camp, a children’s cancer foundation. There is a little Talia Joy Castellano inside of all of us. No matter what life throws at you, Be Brave. Be Beautiful. Be Confident.
