My favorite way to de stress is laying down on my bed in my bedroom, with every light turned off, no sound, no TV or radio, phone turned off. I put tea bags that i have saturated with water, place one on each eye and I also place an ice cold washcloth (I wet a washcloth about an hour before and placed it in the freezer)on my forehead.

Then I close my eyes and try to wipe every thought from my mind and simply relax. I do this for about 30 minutes and these 30 minutes are toal bliss. It’s wonderful to be in your own little world every now and then just to maintain one’s sanity.

    Thanks for this great giveaway.

De Stress by a face mask and day of pampering

  61. donna eaton
    Posted January 25, 2011 at 9:00 pm | Permalink

I have several ways of destressing, but usually, I am in from work, lock the door and turn on some soft jazz music, if hungry I will eat a big crunchy stalk of celery w/ some hummus on it. Next I fill the tub with hot water as hot as I can stand so those muscles will relax, and of course put in my favorite bubbles. The music will then come into the bathroom. I am still crunching as I am getting ready to get in the tub. The phone rings, but I know they can leave a message, so I don’t answer it. I get out of the tub, put on my nice cotton full length robe, and head to the computer. I then go on my fav web sites and as I sit there I put on my fav face cream usually one with not much scent, and my eye cream and spritz the essential oil (always sitting on my computer desk) and usually lemmon which I like as well as others, and relax. After that 55 minutes of time, I’m ready to go, ’cause I’m destressed.

When I am in Wisconsin and weather is cold and the snow has fallen, I bundle up and snowshoe around a nearby lake. Accustomed to city life, it scares me to be in the still woods with only the occasional fisherman in sight. Although I should find this peaceful, I have an underlying fear of wild animals, men falling through ice, my getting lost, darkness falling, encountering drunk and scary and men, the truck being stolen… Snowshoeing is a certain amount of work, but my heart rate is up because of my anxiety. Once back at the house, I pour a small glass of wine, prepare a fancy bath and soak, knowing that my fears are lessened with each trip around the lake. After a big dinner I open the bedroom windows to cold air. Under down comforters, I sleep like a dream.

These days, with the economic slump, STRESS is dominates the lives of many people I interface with, personally and professionally. It is an epidemic that is becoming more and more prevalent during these challenging times. My secret to managing my STRESS level, (aka:DE-STRESS) is to maintain a regular exercise regimen, have good eating habits (lots of fresh fruits and vegetables daily!). But most of LOVE YOURSELF enough by reserving or allocating an hour each day to “Take care of me!” That’s my secret to DE-STRESSING. Serously, it’s really not that hard. It just takes a little bit of self-discipline and a positive mindset. BE KIND TO YOURSELF; Celebrate LIFE the way you would celebrate a New Year! Cheers, Rose

Great de-stressing ideas on this thread. For something Fast and a little different try one or all of following

Rapid Eye Movement….Very quickly, roll your eyes in various combinations – up, down, side to side, diagonals, circles … don’t worry about specific pattern, just keep eyes moving in fast random pattern for just a minute or two ..smile at end…notice difference

Look up (to right if right handed, left if left handed)…tilt head up in same direction and Smile

Get into the Present… focus attention on stomach – take slow deep breath in thru nose, hold briefly then slowly breate out thru mouth … focus attention on breath and seek to really feel – quieting mind and inner chatter do 3 or 4 time

During one of the toughest times in my life, it was suggested to me that I look within myself to find out who I was, starting with making a list of what I liked to do. I was so young at the time, and such a people pleaser most of my activities revolved around things that could get me some sort of scholastic recognition. I wasn’t sure what I had or hadn’t done TRULY for myself.
I know it sounds silly, but long story short the first thing I came up with was, baths. I truly knew I LOVED to take them. That was 9 years ago, and to this day that’s where I still go to center myself, and de-stress. My little place of rest, and relaxation. Some times I’ll even bring in a large mug of my favorite tea and a book. It never gets old, the feeling of the stresses of this world just washing away, readying me for the possibilities of the next day.

With 5 boys at home I often joke and tell people that I go to the local Trauma Center to get some R & R! I am the charge nurse of our local very busy level II Trauma Center. So even if it sounds far-fetched, I’m telling the truth! With the level of activity at home and the constant noise, needs, arguments, squabbles and out put of my attention at home, It seems relaxing to go to the Emergency Department for some rest and relaxation. This method probably won’t work for everybody but it sure works for me!……”Oh goodie….Mommy gets to work tomorrow!” Hehehehehe!

To de-stress it’s imperative to be able to calm not just the mind, but the body and soul. When things are tough I like to take a day on the weekend to myself–pamper, drink healthy teas and juice, listen to soothing music, and do the things I love, like reading or doing some art. On that day I turn off the phone and tell myself not to think about problems or work but just enjoy being in the moment…all day!
