I have several ways of destressing, but usually, I am in from work, lock the door and turn on some soft jazz music, if hungry I will eat a big crunchy stalk of celery w/ some hummus on it. Next I fill the tub with hot water as hot as I can stand so those muscles will relax, and of course put in my favorite bubbles. The music will then come into the bathroom. I am still crunching as I am getting ready to get in the tub. The phone rings, but I know they can leave a message, so I don’t answer it. I get out of the tub, put on my nice cotton full length robe, and head to the computer. I then go on my fav web sites and as I sit there I put on my fav face cream usually one with not much scent, and my eye cream and spritz the essential oil (always sitting on my computer desk) and usually lemmon which I like as well as others, and relax. When I am in Wisconsin and weather is cold and the snow has fallen, I bundle up and snowshoe around a nearby lake. Accustomed to city life, it scares me to be in the still woods with only the occasional fisherman in sight. Although I should find this peaceful, I have an underlying fear of wild animals, men falling through ice, my getting lost, darkness falling, encountering drunk and scary and men, the truck being stolen… Snowshoeing is a certain amount of work, but my heart rate is up because of my anxiety. Once back at the house, I pour a small glass of wine, prepare a fancy bath and soak, knowing that my fears are lessened with each trip around the lake.
