We can always count on spring to inspire trends that promote fresh, natural beauty. And spring 2012 hair trends are all about looking carelessly chic and effortlessly edgy, which means less time and maintenance!
I couldn’t be happier about it. As someone who’s finally stopped fighting my hair’s natural tendencies, surrendering my flat iron has made my life so much easier and my hair significantly healthier. No more dry, straw-like hair that smells like it’s been singed, even after it has just been washed. With the latest spring styles, I can rock the wash and go look and still be right on trend!
Whether it’s wet and tousled, sleek and slicked back, carefully undone, or big loose waves, whichever style you choose, anything far from looking overworked is a celebrated trend this season.
Here are just a few of the hair trends for spring and the products that help you achieve the look:
Sleek and Slick
Apply hair gel like Alterna Bamboo Freestyle Flexible Control Gel onto towel-dried hair. Using a comb, smooth hair back from the hairline to the crown, allowing the rest of the hair to flow down and dry freely. Finish it off with a smoothing serum like Oscar Blandi Olio di Jasmine Hair Serum for a glossy finish.
Wet and Tousled
For that fresh, just-out-of-the-shower look, as seen at Alexander Wang, Redken hairstylist Guido first created texture using volumizing mousse like Rene Furterer Vegetal Mousse. He then saturated hair with argan oil for that glistening effect.
The Undone Do
This style, as seen at Ricardo Preto during Portugal Fashion Week, makes bed head beautiful. Best of all, it’s simple. First wash and condition hair to avoid any knots. Spritz on a leave-in conditioner like Rene Furterer Volumea Volumizing Conditioning Spray or a texturizer like John Masters Organics Sea Mist Sea Salt Spray with Lavender for a beach-blown look. Blow dry hair using your fingers to create volume while scrunching hair.
Full, Loose Waves
The always cute and stylish Kate Bosworth, pictured here at an L.A. premier of “Life Happens”, is sporting loose, wavy hair and volume for the perfect girl-next-door beauty. To get this look without a curling iron, evenly distribute mousse onto damp hair. Section off about 2 inches of hair throughout your head (the bigger the section, the bigger the waves) and twist each section until it coils tightly into a sort of bun. Pin them in place using bobby pins and then blow dry throughout. Remove the pins and shake out the waves. Finish off with hair spray like Philip B. Self Adjusting Hair Spray to set your style without the sticky residue or crunchy feel.
