For summer vacation, I’m visiting my family in upstate New York. Right now, I’m sitting in a one-room school house in the Adirondacks (don’t worry, it’s been converted into a cabin) and I’m kicking myself because I forgot the most essential skin care product: tea tree oil. I’m literally scratching everywhere because I’ve been attacked by mosquitoes and I can’t help but think I’d be in a much better situation if I had brought my favorite beauty product, tea tree oil.
You might be wondering: why is she so bummed out about forgetting her tea tree oil? I’ll explain. My sister got me into tea tree oil last year when we traveled Thailand together. Tea tree oil serves so many purposes. It is not only anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-septic, making it good for cuts, scratches and blemishes (it reduces the size and the redness!), but also treats mosquito bites and keeps them away! We always carried it with us in Thailand, and would add it in to all of our facial and body lotions because mosquitoes hate the way it smells. I, on the other, absolutely LOVE the smell of tea tree oil. There is something very refreshing about the scent.
So now, in between hiking in the woods and swimming in the Piseco Lake, I’m on the hunt for tea tree oil. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m going to find it in this neck of the woods, but believe me, I will NEVER travel without my tea tree oil again. Next stop, Manhattan! Although I’ll be surrounded by cement and skyscrapers I’m sure I’ll still feel the bite of mosquitoes, but at least I’ll be able to find my tea tree oil!
